Advisor Kumar reviews functioning of Forest Deptt

SRINAGAR, Aug 26: Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar today reviewed the functioning of Forest Department at a meeting convened with the senior officers here today.
The meeting also discussed the action plan for State Medicinal Plant Board (SMPB) and the strategy it has adopted to undertake its activities in Jammu and Kashmir with regard to promotion of the medicinal plants and its use.
The meeting was attended by PCCF J&K Mohit Ghera, Managing Director JKSFC Vasu Yadav, CCF Kashmir Farooq Gillani, CEO SMPB T Rabi Kumar and other senior officers of the Forest department.
On the occasion, PCCF J&K gave a detailed presentation about the overall functioning of the department and its allied wings. He also gave out the details of the activities that are being undertaken by the department to increase the green cover in the state.
The meeting held threadbare discussions on the suggestions made by the committee constituted by the department on necessary amendments in accordance with the application of Central Acts/Rules pursuant to J&K Reorganization Act – 2019. Further, the meeting also discussed the Central Acts which are made applicable to the UT of J&K and UT of Ladakh.
While highlighting the activities of State Medicinal Plant Board, its CEO T Rabi Kumar informed that the Board is working as per the action plans and is carrying out all important activities to achieve the objectives.
Speaking on the occasion, the Advisor asked the department to focus on capacity building of the officers and other employees for better delivery of services, to take all necessary portative measures to save the forests, use of modern technology for conservation of forests, making check point system more effective and few other important interventions for further strengthening the department.
The Advisor also asked for creating the Forest Intelligence Cell within the department.
