JAMMU, May 18: Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS) & Hospital, Sidhra has achieved yet another milestone by successfully conducting the All Inside Arthroscopic (Key Hole) ACL reconstruction.
Orthopaedic Department of ASCOMS & Hospital led by Dr. Rajesh Gupta, Prof. & Head successfully conducted Minimally Invasive Arthroscopic (Key Hole) reconstruction of ACL in 20 year old young athlete.
The department has been performing Arthroscopic surgeries from many years with the traditional approaches using endobutton/screws.
Dr. Gupta informed that a State level Judo player had torn his ACL about two years back and was unable to participate in sports activities due to instability of knee.
“We did all Inside Arthroscopic repair of ACL using Hamstring Tendon Autograft which is minimally invasive and there is less bone which is removed and patient can be made to walk without support and knee movements can be started on 1st day. The patient was discharged the next day,” Dr. Gupta informed.
Dr. Pavan Malhotra, Director-Principal ASCOMS said that Orthopaedics Department has been regularly conducting arthroscopic (Key Hole) surgeries of knee, shoulder and other joints.
“ACL reconstruction through this novel technique is first time being performed in our hospital,” he maintained.
The surgery was performed by a team headed by Dr. Rajesh Gupta, Orthopaedic and Sports Injuries Specialist and Dr. Shafiq Hackla, Assistant Professor assisted by Dr. Sunny Sharma and Dr. Nitish Sharma. Dr. Gupta who is an expert in the field of Orthopaedics trauma, joint replacement and arthroscopic surgeries said that department is well equipped and regularly conducting wide spectrum of orthopaedic surgeries like joint replacement, sports injuries, trauma surgeries, spine surgeries etc.
