ACB arrests 2 police officers

Srinagar, Sept 1: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested two police officers after one of them was caught red handed while accepting the bribe.

A statement issued by the ACB said that the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) received a written complaint alleging that PSI Karanjeet Singh, Investigating officer (IO) of case FIR No. 65/2026 registered at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh Srinagar through his accomplice Ravi Jee Bhat, Sub-Inspector P/S Ram Munshi Bagh Srinagar, had demanded illegal gratification from the complainant for closing the case as "Not Admitted" between the parties.

"On receipt of the complaint, the ACB conducted verification of the allegations, which prima facie established the demand for illegal gratification," the statement said.

"Accordingly, Case FIR No. 12/2026 under Section 7, Section 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 & Section 61(2)BNS was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar and investigation was taken up."

The statement further said that during the course of investigation a trap team was constituted.

"The team caught the accused public servant Ravi Jee Bhat, Sub Inspector Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh Srinagar red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs.15000 on behalf of IO of the case PSI Karanjeet Singh from the complainant," the statement added.

"The bribe amount was recovered from the possession of the accused in the presence of independent witnesses and he was taken into custody in accordance with law, and his Co-conspirator PSI Karanjeet Singh was subsequently arrested by the Bureau," it said.

Further investigation is in progress.
