About 60% dip in militant activities in Valley: DGP

SRINAGAR, Feb 28: Asserting that there is a substantial dip in the number of militants and their activities in Kashmir, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said that police is on a mission to build peace in the Valley.
He said thousands of people have lost their lives due to militancy during the last 30 years in Kashmir. “Militants have carried out many crimes in the Valley during this time”, he told reporters during his visit to Baramulla district today.
However, he said the militant activities have witnessed a huge dip if compared with previous years. “If we compare the first two months of year 2019 and 2018 you can see the dip in militant activities. About 60 per cent dip has been witnessed in militant related crimes in the valley,” he said.

“We are working towards maintaining this trend and in coming days completely eradicate militancy in the Valley so that people can live in peace and prosperity”, he added.
Later, Singh inaugurated Women Police Station and took a review of the security scenario in an officers meeting at DPO, Baramulla. He also presented DGP’s medal to the 24 officers and jawans of North Kashmir Range in an investiture ceremony held at DPL, Baramulla.
During the visit the DGP was accompanied by IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar and was received by DIG North Kashmir Range Mohammad Suleman Choudhary, SSP Baramulla Abdul Qayoom and other jurisdictional officers.
While inaugurating the Women Police Station, the DGP stressed for counselling in case of domestic disputes so as to help the couples to develop a better understanding. The DGP directed the women officers and Investigation officers to follow the complaints even after the settlement by visiting their home occasionally to get first hand information that the dispute has settled. SHO of the Police station briefed the DGP about the working process of the police station, and disposal of complaints & registration of FIRs.
While chairing the security review meeting, the DGP said that the teamwork by different forces is being hailed at the highest level of Government. He directed the officers to plug in any loopholes in the security grids in north Kashmir.
IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, GOC 19th Infantry Division Major General Gurbirpaal Singh, DIG North Kashmir Range Suleman Choudhary, DIG BSF Sector Baramulla Brigadier Jitender Sindhu, DIG CRPF Aneesh Sirohi, SSP Baramulla, SSP Kupwara, SSP Sopore, SP Handwara, ASP Bandipora, Commandants of BSF and CRPF posted in north Kashmir attended the meeting.
GOC 19th Infantry Division, DIG BSF, DIG NKR, DIG CRPF and North Kashmir district SPs briefed the DGP about the current security scenario and measures taken to maintain peace and order in their respective jurisdictions.
DGP on the occasion paid rich tributes to the martyrs of JK Police and other security forces who sacrificed their lives for integrity and sovereignty of the country and for the security of the people and their property.
