JAMMU, Dec 23: A splendid unbeaten century (116) by Abhishek Raut and magnificent 85 by Debasish Samantray helped Odisha to gain a vital first innings lead of 196 runs despite brilliant bowling effort by J&K’s Irfan Pathan in the Ranji Trophy Group-C Match at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here today.
J&K were 27 without loss in the second essay with openers Qamran Iqbal on (17) and Shubham Khajuria on (10) at stumps on day-2 today.
Earlier, resuming from an overnight score of 91/1, Odisha as one stage were struggling at 115/5 as the fast bowling duo of Irfan Pathan and Umar Nazir wreaked havoc in the morning session, before Debasish Samantray (85) and Abhishek Raut (116*) made a partnership of over 100 runs to help their team score 323 runs and gain a lead of 196 runs. Anurag Sarangi also contributed valuable 57 runs. From Jammu and Kashmir, Irfan Pathan bowled brilliantly and took 4 important wickets by conceding 52 runs in 21 overs, while Umar Nazir bagged 3 wickets by giving away 49 runs in his 18 overs. With two days left in the match, Jammu and Kashmir has a huge task in hand to make a match of it.
Cricket being the game of glorious uncertainties, predicting things will be foolish.
