GANDERBAL, Nov 21: The Kashmir unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today held elections to elect district president and incharges of Ganderbal and Kangan constituencies.
The BJP workers from Ganderbal and Kangan areas cast their votes to elect their representatives in presence of BJP’s Organizational general secretary Ashok Kaul and the party spokesman Khalid Jehangir.
In closely fought elections Bashir Ahmed Bhat was elected as district President Kangan Constituency while Ghulam Hassan and Abid Bhat were elected as Constituency Incharges.
Addressing the party workers on the occasion, BJP’s Organizational general secretary, Ashok Koul said, this is for the first time in the history that workers of any party have elected their representatives. History stands testimony to the fact that Abdullahs used to impose leaders over the people of Ganderbal but BJP has changed the history by holding these elections and allowing workers to elect their own representatives.
Koul said, from late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah to Omar Abdullah none of the NC leaders lived up to the expectations of the people and treated Ganderbal as their vote bank. BJP is committed to empower the people and take them along. Omar didn’t contest the Assembly polls from Ganderbal in 2014 as he knew that people would reject him.
He said that more district presidents and constituency incharges would be elected across the Valley in coming days.
The BJP spokesperson Khalid Jehangir said,  Ganderbal district  has  got a vast potential. Youth are talented but need exposure and their talent needs to be harnessed.
