JAMMU, Oct 20 : Minister for Health, Horticulture, Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma on Saturday inaugurated the heritage walk, a part of Navratra festival, from Ambaran to Jio Pot Ghat, Akhnoor organized by Department of Tourism and district administration.
The aim of the walk was to make the students aware about the historical importance and tourism potential of Akhnoor in particular.
Nearly, 500 to 600 students from different schools including Jawahar Navodhaya Vidayala, Government Degree College, Palawan, Boys and Girls HSS, Akhnoor, Sohal, Chander Bhaga, High School Devipur, Mandrian, DAV Nagbani and NCC cadets also participated in this heritage walk.
The ancient site Ambaran, locally known as “Pambaran”, is located near Akhnoor on the right bank of river Chenab (Ancient Asikni or Chanderbhaga).
On the occasion, Sham called upon the teaching fraternity as well as students to join hands for strengthening communal harmony and brotherhood in the State which is known for its composite culture. He said that significant breakthrough has been made in the past few years to restore pristine glory of the State.
Sham said that in the past three and half years several development projects including construction of Government Ayurvedic Medical College-cum-Hospital, hostel for general nursing and Mid Wifery school, 100 bedded hospital under NRHM, mini secretariat complex and various road and bridge projects have been launched in the area. He added that several healthcare centres and education institutions have been constructed and upgraded under NRHM and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) respectively besides employing the youth under Rehber-i-Talim (ReT). He said alternative road will be constructed along Chenab river from old bridge Akhnoor to Kathar upto Reasi to attract the pilgrims of Shri Mata Vaishno Deviji and Shiv Khori Shrine.
The Superintendent from the Archaeological Survey of India, was the guest of honour on the occasion.
