Temporary PHE workers’ protest-dharna enters 20th day

JAMMU, Sept 28: The protest demonstration and dharna of the daily rated, ITI trained and CP workers of the PHE Department in support of their demands entered the 20th consecutive day at BC Road office complex of the department here today.
The agitating temporary workers in large number, under the banner of All J&K PHE, ITI Trained & CP Workers Association assembled in the office of Chief Engineer at BC Road office complex in the morning and started protest demonstration against the higher authorities in the department. It was followed by a day log dharna. The workers were raising loud slogans against the Chief Engineer concerned, Minister for PHE, I&FC Sukhnandan Choudhary, Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu and Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed. They also raised slogans against BJP Ministers from Jammu region for their failure to project their case and provide them relief.
The agitating workers are demanding to framing of proper policy for their regularization and release of their pending wages. They alleged that Government has failed to resolve their issue and it has turned insensitive towards the woes of the poor workers. The wages of the poor and hapless workers are not being paid by Govt even on festivals. This is criminal act on the part of Mufti Govt. This is the worst kind of period being faced by the J&K workers.
The workers were demanding release of their wages in time and regularly and enhancement in the rate of their daily wages. They demanded that disparity in the wages of the Valley based and Jammu region workers be removed and unique wage system be adopted in all the three regions of the State.
Provincial president of the Association, Tanveer Hussain alleged that despite assurance given by Minister for PHE and senior officers, their demands have not been resolved. Many of them have been working for the last 15-20 years but they are still waiting for their regularization.
He further disclosed that on September 30, the PHE workers from all the districts of Jammu region including Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri and Poonch would take out a grand `Adhikar’ rally in Jammu as the Government has failed to resolve the issue after 20 days of agitation. The rally would start from B C Road office complex and then culminate at Press Club after passing through KC Chowk and Indira Chowk in temple city.
