4 drug peddlers arrested in South Kashmir

SRINAGAR, May 23: Police arrested four drug peddlers in Anantnag, Awantipora and Sopore and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Anantnag district, a police team from Police Station Kokernag intercepted two suspected persons during naka checking at Panzgam.
During searches, police recovered around 584 grams of ganja-like substance and 67 grams of charas-like substance from their possession, officials said.
The accused were identified as Aijaz Ahmad Wani, son of Sana Ullah Wani, and Rouf Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Maqbool Bhat, both residents of Panzgam Kokernag.
In Awantipora, police from Police Station Tral apprehended a suspected drug peddler during naka checking at Bathnoor-Nagdi Crossing, officials said.
They said 75 grams of charas-like substance and 460 grams of ground cannabis were recovered from his possession.
The accused was identified as Tariq Ahmad Khandey, son of Mohammad Rajab Khandey, a resident of Bathnoor Tral.
Meanwhile, in Sopore, police apprehended another suspected peddler during patrolling near Grid Station Seelo falling under the jurisdiction of Police Post Bus Stand.
He was identified as Yawar-ul-Islam Naikoo, son of Khazir Mohammad Naikoo, a resident of Seelo Sopore, officials added.
They said a heroin-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession and seized as per legal procedure.
