RAJOURI, May 23: A youth died under suspicious circumstances after sustaining a gunshot injury in the Narsinghpura Palma area of Rajouri district.
The deceased has been identified as Abhijeet Singh (18), son of Dilip Singh, a resident of Narsinghpura Palma. He was purportedly cleaning his father’s 12 Bore rifle at his home when the firearm suddenly went off.
The bullet reportedly struck the youth directly, leaving him critically injured. Family members and locals immediately shifted him to a hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him as dead.
After receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and took custody of the body before initiating the necessary legal formalities. Following the post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family for last rites.
Although the incident is initially being treated as an accidental firing case, police have started an investigation from multiple angles considering the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death. The 12 Bore gun used in the incident has also been seized.
Police officials said that keeping in view the seriousness of the matter, all aspects are being thoroughly examined, and the actual cause will become clear only after completion of the investigation.
