JAMMU, May 23: Daily commuters and local residents are facing immense inconvenience due to persistent traffic congestion near Sabzi Mandi, Janipur where wrong parking and unregulated roadside reharis have turned the busy market area into a major bottleneck.
The road leading to the Mandi remains choked for several hours every day, especially during morning and evening hours, as vehicles are parked carelessly along both sides of the road. The situation worsens due to roadside vendors and reharis occupying a significant portion of the road, leaving little space for the smooth movement of traffic.
Residents said the congestion has become a routine affair, causing delays to office-goers, school buses, ambulances and other emergency services. Pedestrians also find it difficult to move safely through the crowded stretch, increasing the risk of accidents.
Locals alleged that despite repeated appeals to the concerned departments, no effective action has been taken to streamline traffic or remove encroachments. They stressed that the absence of proper parking facilities and inadequate traffic regulation have aggravated the problem.
Shopkeepers and residents have urged the Traffic Police and Jammu Municipal Corporation to immediately launch a special enforcement drive against illegal parking and unauthorized roadside encroachments. They also demanded the creation of designated parking spaces and proper regulation of reharis to ensure smooth vehicular movement and public convenience in the area.
The worsening traffic situation near Janipur Sabzi Mandi continues to remain a major concern for the public, with residents hoping for prompt intervention by the authorities before the problem escalates further.
