JOURIAN, May 23: In connection with the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan – Phase II, launched by the All India Congress Committee to further strengthen the party at the grassroots level, a massive programme was organised today by the Chhamb and Akhnoor Congress units at Municipal Committee Hall, Jourian.
Addressing the gathering, Vakar Rasool Wani, Member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) and former President of JKPCC, strongly criticised the Government for failing to provide adequate employment opportunities to educated and technically qualified unemployed youth in J&K. He said that the youth of the Union Territory are being deprived of employment avenues and, out of frustration, many are falling prey to the drug mafia, which is a matter of grave concern.
Wani also referred to the ongoing concerns surrounding the NEET examination paper leak issue and said that repeated incidents of paper leaks in recent years have shattered the hopes of lakhs of hardworking students aspiring to secure good results through merit.
Former Deputy Chief Minister and Working President of JKPCC, Tara Chand, while addressing the programme, criticised both the Central and UT Governments reminding the public of the “golden era” of Congress governance. He claimed that during the Congress regime, several employment-oriented schemes such as RET, REZ, and REK were introduced, which provided livelihood opportunities to lakhs of educated and uneducated unemployed youth. He further said that roads across the region are presently in a dilapidated condition, while the prices of essential commodities continue to rise unchecked, causing immense hardship to the common people.
During the programme, delegates from both Chhamb and Akhnoor constituencies unanimously decided to continue with the present Block Presidents. It was also resolved to continue the existing organisational structure of the party, including the Block Level Committees. Delegates further recommended several names for inclusion in the District Congress Committee, Jammu (Rural).
Among the prominent leaders who also addressed the gathering, included former Vice Chairman SC/ST Advisory Board Bhushan Dogra, General Secretary PCC Narinder Sharma, Chairman OBC Department Madan Lal Chalotra, General Secretary Balbir Singh, Secretary Vijay Shastri, Vijay Singh Chib, President Municipal Committee Jourian Vijay Sharma, President MC Khour Ashok Sharma, Vice President PYC Ricky Dalotra, retired DC R A Inqlabi, Satish Dutta, Surender Sharma, Bodh Raj Sharma, Davinder Singh Bittu and several others.
