7 yrs RI awarded in rape case

JAMMU, Jan 24: Principal Sessions Judge Reasi Kamlesh Pandit today awarded seven years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 10,000 to Rakesh Kumar, son of Sheru Ram of Bhambla, who was facing trial in a rape case.
After hearing both the sides, the court observed, “the imprisonment for seven years shall sub-serve the ends of justice. Accordingly, it is ordered that for commission of offence under Section 376 of RPC, the convict Rakesh Kumar shall undergo rigorous imprisonment for seven years and a fine of Rs.10,000”.
The court also recommended that compensation in terms of Victim Compensation Scheme, as on date, may be granted to the prosecutrix. “A copy of this judgment shall be forwarded to the Chairman District Legal Service Authority Reasi”, the court ordered.
