SRINAGAR, Feb 25: Police today arrested 7 drug peddlers and recovered contraband as well as psychotropic substances from their possession in Sopore, Ganderbal and Baramulla.
In Sopore, authorities said that a police party from Police Post Watergam, intercepted a truck bearing Registration No. JK03E-4421 with 3 persons onboard at a checkpoint established at Seelo-Behrampora bridge.
“During the search of the vehicle, 70 bottles of Codeine Phosphate were recovered. The accused were arrested and identified as Naseer Ahmad Sheikh son of Muhammad Jamal Sheikh, Muhammad Amin Sheikh son of Farooq Ahmad Sheikh, and Danish Manzoor Bhat son of Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, all residents of Seelo Sopore.
Further, police said, based on specific information, a checkpoint was established at Mahrajpora Sopore, during which 3 drug peddlers were apprehended.
As per police, they have been identified as Showkat Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Rashid Bhat resident of Neharpora Sopore, Firdous Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Mohiudin Bhat resident of Mazbugh Sopore, and Firdous Ahmad Dar son of Nazir Ahmad Dar resident of Mahrajpora Sopore.
“During their personal search, 1700 grams of charas-like contraband substances were recovered from their possession,” police said.
In Ganderbal, police said, Police Post Shadipora received information through reliable sources that one person namely Manzoor Ahmad Bhat alias Setha son of Late Gh Mohd Bhat resident of Batwina has hoarded banned drugs in his residential house.
“During the search, 10 Strips of banned drugs (Spasmo Proxyvon-Plus) were recovered from the vehicle (Scorpio) bearing Registration No. JK16-0901 belonging to the accused person.”
Police said that the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was also seized. However, the accused managed to escape from the spot, and efforts are on to effect his arrest.
In Baramulla, a police party headed by SHO PS Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Stadium Colony Baramulla intercepted a suspicious person.
“During the search, the officer was able to recover 250 grams of charas-like contraband substance from his possession.”
He has been identified as Mubashir Ahmad Bhat son of Gh Mohd resident of Najibhat Wagoora, police said, adding that he has been arrested and shifted to the Police Station where he remains in custody.
