DODA, Apr 12: In a tragic accident, seven persons were killed while three others seriously injured when the mini-bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into stream near Piyakul area of tehsil Kahara in Sub District Thathri, here today.

The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JK06A-7633 was on its way to Chilly from Thathri when the driver lost control over the vehicle and it rolled down into stream near Piyakul area, resulting into on the spot death of five persons and injuries to five others.
After getting information, police team from Police Station Gandoh led by SHO Inspector Suresh Gautam and Police Post Kahara rushed to the spot and started rescue operation.
The seriously injured persons were retrieved and rushed to Government Medical College (GMC) Doda for treatment, where one of the injured was declared as brought dead, thereby raising the death toll to 6.
Helicopter of Indian Air Force (IAF) captained by Wing Commander Mukul Khare was pressed in from Jammu to airlift the three seriously injured persons to Associated Hospital Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu for specialised treatment from Doda. One more injured succumbed to her injuries while being shifting to GMCH Jammu, thereby raising the death toll to 7.
The bodies of the deceased were also retrieved and handed over for legal formalities after conducting autopsy at Associated Hospital GMC Doda.
The deceased were identified as Yasir Hussain, son of Bashir Ahmad, resident of Dhrouth Tehsil Kahara, Shukur Din, son of Abdul Aziz, a resident of Tanta Kahara, Kali Begum, wife of Abdul Karim, a resident of Piyakul, Anju Devi, wife of Sunil Kumar, a resident of Sewa Chiralla, Sudesha Devi, wife of Man Singh, a resident of Suhanda Shiva, Prem Chand, son of Sant Ram of Bajja Chiralla and Kali Begum, wife of Mohammad Ibrahim, a resident of Nagni Dichal.
The injured were identified as Abdul Latief, son of Mohammad Ibrahim, a resident of Chilly, Tanvir Hussain, son of Ali Hussain, a resident of Chilly Malath and Ghulam Mohammad, son of Fateh Mohammad, a resident of Gali-Bhatoli.
Police sources informed that rash and negligent driving by the driver was the reason behind the accident.
However, a case under relevant Sections has been registered at Police Station Gandoh and investigation initiated to ascertain the exact reason behind the accident.
Meanwhile, MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh has expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured persons.
In a tweet, Dr Jitendra said, “Concerned by news of minibus accident enroute Thathri to Gandoh in district Doda. We are in regular touch with DC Vikas Sharma and my office monitoring rescue operation. Seriously injured being immediately shifted by helicopter. All further assistance, as required, will also be provided”.
