7 drug peddlers arrested

SRINAGAR, May 12: Police today claimed to have arrested seven drug peddlers in Shopian district and recovered a huge quantity of a banned substance from them.
A police spokesman said on a specific information, it conducted raids at various places and arrested seven people and recovered 155 bottles of ‘Codeine Phosphate’ from their possession.
The peddlers have been identified as Jahangir Ahmad Mir, Showket Ahmad Najar, Reyaz Ahmad Reshi, Abid Hussain, Mohammad Iqbal Wagay, Shameem Ahmad Mir and Ashiq Hussain Mir.
The banned drug was meant for sale to local youths in the district, he said.
“A case has been registered under NDPS Act and investigations have been started. More arrests and recoveries are expected,” he said.
