67 animals rescued as Police foils 4 attempts of bovine smuggling

UDHAMPUR, Apr 30: Foiling four attempts of bovine smuggling in the district, Udhampur Police today rescued 67 animals and arrested eight smugglers besides affecting seizure of six vehicles.
Two smuggling attempts were foiled under the jurisdiction of Udhampur Police Station and one each at Chenani and Kud.
28 bovine animals were rescued when by a Police party, led by SHO Udhampur, Inspector Mahesh Sharma intercepted two trucks during a surprise naka on the National Highway near Jakheni in the wee hours.  Each truck was carrying 14 animals. Police rescued the animals and seized both the trucks bearing registration number  JK02AW/6432 and  JK02AD/JK08A . Drivers of both the trucks and their two associates, identified as Mohd Sardar of Mirpur Jammu,  Mohd Javed of Nagrota,  Mohd Rafiq of Zero Morh Reasi and Mohd Jaleel of  Khanpur Nagrota were  arrested on the spot.
In this regard, a case FIR number 162/2014 under section 188/RPC 3 PC Act  has been registered at Police Station Udhampur.
Five more bovine animals were rescued by a Police party from Udhampur  Police Station after it intercepted one Tata Mobile JK14B/5599 at Jakhani. The accused driver  managed to flee while Police seized the vehicle.
Similarly, acting on specific information, a Police party led by SHO Chenani, Inspector Ajeet Singh,  laid a surprise naka on the National Highway near Chenani Top in the wee hours and intercepted two trucks bearing Registration number  JK1A-5419 and .JK02AD-2817.  Total 26 bovine animals were rescued from these trucks, 13 from each vehicle. Police arrested drivers of both the trucks, namely Mukhtyar Hussian of Thanamandi  Rajouri and Abdul Aziz of Ramban  and also seized their vehicles.
A case FIR number  35/2014 under section  188/RPC 3 PC Act  has been registered at Police Station Chenani.
Meanwhile, a Police party from Kud  also rescued eight bovine animals during a surprise naka on the National Highway near Kud in the wee hours today. Police  intercepted a Mohindra vehicle bearing Registration number  JK03C-1193 and rescued the animals. The accused driver namely Sajad Ahmed and his smuggler associate Ayaz Ahmed of Kokernag were arrested  on the  spot while their vehicle was also seized.
In this regard, a case FIR number  33/2014 U/S 188/RPC 3 PCA Act stands registered at Police Station Kud.
