65th anniversary of Kargil liberation celebrated

SRINAGAR, Nov 23: To celebrate the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Kargil by the Army, a number of events were organised in Kargil today.
The celebrations began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Kargil War Memorial which was attended by senior Army officers and civil dignitaries from the region.
Asgar Ali Karbalai, Chief Executive Councilor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) along with other civilian dignitaries laid wreaths to pay homage to the martyrs of the 1947-48 operations.
This was followed by a Special Sainik Sammelan in which the senior Army and civil officials addressed the troops. Later in the afternoon the focus shifted to the cultural event organized by the Army. The event showcased the local culture, folk songs and dances and witnessed keen and enthusiastic participation from numerous cultural groups and solo artists of Kargil District.
The events were preceded by conduct of medical and veterinary camps by the Army in entire Kargil District between November 19-21, 2013.
A “Know Your Army” exhibition was organised to showcase various equipment being used by the Army. The exhibition was a big draw. Simultaneously, a multi-specialty medical camp, jointly organised by the Army and civil doctors, was also held alongside the Mela.
