6 traders booked for violating various laws

SRINAGAR, Nov 3: The Legal Metrology Department today booked six traders after they were found to be violating the Packaged Commodities/Weights and Measures Laws.
In a statement, a spokesman of the Legal Metrology Department said that a team of field executives under the supervision of Joint Controller/Deputy Controller (Enforcement) carried out inspection of several markets of Srinagar city and booked six erring traders for violating Packaged Commodities/Weights and Measures Laws.
The spokesman said that in an instance, a truck carrying LPG cylinders to Baramulla was intercepted by the checking squad. The LPG refill cylinders were checked for net contents and mandatory declarations. It was observed that the truck was carrying underweight and expired cylinders i.e. mandatory re-test date had expired.
He said the gas dealer was booked under Section 39 of Standards of Weights and Measures (Enforcement) Act, 1997 through the driver and some cylinders were seized. The matter is being taken up with the Plant Manager of the bottling plant for short-filling and expiry date.
