5th Independence Cup Kho Kho C’ship begins in Jammu

JAMMU, Aug 29: The 5th Independence Cup Kho Kho Championship 2026 commenced at Green Field, Gandhi Nagar, with six boys' and six girls' teams representing clubs from different districts.

The tournament was inaugurated by Amrinder Pal Singh, General Secretary, in the presence of BS Tirthi, Founder and CEO, JKKKA, Pankaj Malhotra, Treasurer and international player, Tarmeet Raina, Joint Secretary, JKKKA and chief coach Dhiraj Sharma.

Addressing the participants, Amrinder Pal Singh encouraged young athletes to uphold sportsmanship, maintain physical fitness and stay away from drugs. Matches were officiated by Sunil Sharma, Jyoti, Sneha, Sidharth, Yogesh and Pallavi.

In the boys' section, NIS defeated Parivartan Club Junior by nine points and one inning, while SAI Club edged Jammu Sanskriti School by one point and later defeated Parivartan Club by six points and one inning. NIS Club defeated Kishtwar by three points, while Kishtwar beat Parivartan Junior by nine points and one inning.

In the girls' section, Parivartan Club defeated SAI Club by one point and two points in separate matches, while Kishtwar defeated SAI Club by one point and Parivartan Club by one point. The championship will continue tomorrow at the same venue.
