5-tractors seized for illegal mining

SRINAGAR, May 21: Police today continued its drive against illegal mining activities across Kashmir and seized five tractors involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of mining material in Baramulla and Anantnag districts.
A Police spokesperson said Baramulla Police seized two tractors during routine checking and naka duties in separate areas of the district. One tractor bearing Chassis No. WZCG 61942958806 was intercepted while transporting illegally extracted boulders from Chanderseer, while another tractor bearing Registration No. JK05H-0204 loaded with illegally extracted clay from Wagila Nallah was also seized under the provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act (MMDR Act).
In Anantnag, Police Station Kokernag seized three tractors involved in illegal extraction and transportation of mining material from Bringi Nallah near Sofshali, Kokernag during routine patrolling and checking. “A case under FIR No. 53/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Kokernag and investigation has been taken up,” the spokesperson added.
