JAMMU, Oct 17: Twenty two persons including social activists, writers, President Awardee, students and sportspersons were felicitated for their outstanding contributions in various fields at the national convention of Vedic Brahman Kalyan Parishad (VBKP) held at Gurugram (Gurgaon) in Haryana last evening.
The members of Brahman community in large number from J&K, Himachal, Punjab, Chandigarh, Uttrakhand, Hayarana, Rajasthan, MP, UP, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Gujarat participated in this grand function.
The programme commenced with the lighting of traditional lamp by the distinguished personalities among the gathering, followed by welcome address by the president, All India Vedic Brahman Kalyan Parishad, Subhash Kaushik. Several other distinguished speakers including VBKP national general secretary RM Sharma from Karnal, Sachidanad from Bikaner, President Awardee Om Acharya from Falna in Rajasthan, veteran writer Atma Ram Acharya from Rajasthan, Deepak Bagri from Nagpur, Anita Sharma from Indore, Gopal Sharma from Jammu, SN Acharya SDM Jodhpur and Ravikant Sharma from Jammu expressed their views with regard to the upliftment and welfare of the Vedic Brahman community. An impressive cultural programme was also performed on the occasion.
Daya Ram Sharma from Ghagwal in Samba, a noted social activist was honoured with `Vedic Shree Award’ on this occasion. Four outstanding students from J&K honoured for having secured 90 % or more marks in 10th and 12th classes were also honoured with ‘Vedic Vidya Shree Samaan’. They are Sukriti Sharma ( 94 %, Doing MBBS), daughter of Adv Parveen Sharma from Pir Mitha Jammu; Meenakshi Sharma (90.0 %, MBBS), daughter of Rajinder Sharma from Ghagwal; Shantmanu Sharma ( 10CGPA, 10th), son of Om Parkash Sharma from Subhash Nagar, Jammu and Abhinav Sharma (94% in 10th) , son of Kewal Sharma from Akhnoor.
Others awarded with `Vedic Shree Samman’ included Late Mohan Lal Acharya (Posth) from Mewar, writer Atma Ram Acharya, Advo Sachidanand, SN Acharya, Deepak Bagri, Prem Kaushik, President Awardee Om Acharya from Falna, Bali Ram from Karnal and Gian Dev Kaushik from Gurgaon. The students and sportspersons felicitated included Suresh Sharma, Bhavna, Hemanshu, Khushbu and Nikhil Sharma-Chandigarh.
