Srinagar, June 19: A 15 day-old-baby is the youngest COVID-19 patient who died along with three others in Kashmir taking the death toll of such persons in Jammu and Kashmir to 76 while 101 persons tested positive for Coronavirus in the Valley including 14 security force personnel and three pregnant women.
A 15-day-old COVID-19 positive baby with underlying health conditions died at SKIMS hospital here today. The baby from Bemina area of Srinagar is youngest COVID-19 patient to die in Jammu and Kashmir.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura, Dr Farooq Jan told Excelsior that the baby was a case of aortic stenosis with CCF and died this morning. “The swab sample of the baby was taken on June 16 and it tested positive for the virus next day”, he added.
Earlier, an 80-year-old man from Sopore died at SKIMS, two days after his admission to the hospital. He was admitted to the hospital on June 17 with “hypertension,T2DM with CAP with cardiac failure”.
“His sampling for COVID-19 was taken the same day and tested positive on June 18 . The patient expired at 9 a.m. today,” he added.
Earlier, a 79-year-old COVID-19 patient from Nowshera area of Srinagar died at SKIMS Soura. The man with history of travel to Saudia Arabia was admitted to SKIMS on June 8 and died last night.
He had underlying aliments like “hypertension,T2DM, Hypothyroidism, B/L chest infiltrate”.
And tonight, a COVID-19 positive man from Shopian district of South Kashmir died at SMHS Hospital Srinagar. He was suffering from acute pneumonia and was admitted in the hospital where he had tested positive for coronavirus.
So far, 76 COVID-19 people have succumbed to the virus in J&K-nine from Jammu and 66 from the Valley. Srinagar district with 18 deaths has the highest fatalities followed by Baramulla 13, Shopian 10, Kulgam 8, six in Anantnag and Kupwara five, Budgam three, Pulwama two while one death has been reported from Bandipora.
And 10 soldiers, four policemen, three pregnant women and as many minors besides two doctors were among 101 fresh COVID-19 positive cases in Kashmir. The new cases took the overall tally of the COVID-19 patients to 5680 in J&K.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura, told Excelsior that 3126 samples were processed at the Viral Diagnostic Lab today and 62 tested positive for the virus. They include 17 from Pulwama, 12 Kulgam, eight Anantnag, seven Shopian, six each Srinagar and Bandipora, three Baramulla and one each from Budgam, Ganderbal and Kupwara.
They include 4 cops from DPL Pulwama and one solider of 2-RR of army posted at Kulgam.
Principal SKIMS Bemina, Dr Riyaz Untoo, told Excelsior that 431 samples were processed at the hospital’s lab today and six tested positive for COVID-19. All of them are from Srinagar.
Sources said that at least 33 people tested positive for the virus at CD laboratory and included three pregnant women and nine soldiers from Army’s B B Cantt Srinagar.
