JAMMU, Feb 2: Four persons were killed and 24 injured, five of them seriously, in two separate road accidents at Budhal in Rajouri and Mendhar in district Poonch today.
Official sources said that mishap near Budhal took place when an over loaded mini-bus bearing registration number JK-11/ 6229 was on way to Bakori from Budhal. When the vehicle reached near GREF camp, just about one kilometer away from the town, driver lost control over vehicle and it turned turtle at around 3.30 pm. The people from the nearby area including GREF and Army men rushed to the spot. The police party from Budhal Police Station led by SHO Jahangir Ahmed also reached the site of accident in no time. While two persons were killed on the spot, third  succumbed to injuries at Helipad at Budhal while waiting for the Helicopter. They had been trapped under the vehicle.
The deceased were identified as Mohd Tariq (27), son of Abdul Rashid, hailing from  Phaini in Samote, Mohd Ashraf (28), son of Makhna , resident of Bela Morha, Khwas and Zulkar (22), son of Abdul Shakoor, resident of Daraj village. Their bodies were shifted to Budhal hospital for postmortem and performing legal formalities by police.
The injured were removed to local hospital where 12 were further referred to District Hospital, Rajouri. Three were later airlifted to GMC Jammu in MI-17 Helicopter late this evening.
Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary along with SSP Yougal Manhas  and CMO, Dr Suresh Gupta  coordinated the rescue operation and evacuation. The chopper could not land at Budhal earlier and then it was diverted to Rajouri. Three critically injured including Mohd Ashraf, son of Mohd Iqbal from Daraj, Mohd Ishtiaq and Imtiaz Ahmed were airlifted to Jammu Govt Medical College & Hospital. Ashraf’s limb had to be amputated in Army hospital Rajouri, the police said.
The District Administration provided Rs one lakh each as relief in death cases, Rs 25,000 in case of critically injured persons and  Rs 10,000 for injured cases.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has expressed grief over the deaths of three persons in road accident at Budhal. She has extended sympathy to the bereaved families. The Chief Minister directed the Divisional Administration to ensure that the injured in the accident are provided all possible assistance. Minister for FCS&CA, Ch Zulfkar Ali, who is local from the area, has also expressed grief over the tragic deaths in the accident at Budhal and prayed for the early recovery of the injured.
The injured were identified as- Mohd Ashraf from Draj, Intkhab Ahmed, son of Jamshed from Sokar Darhal; Razia Begum, wife of  Mishri from Darman; Sara Begum, wife of Mohd Bashir from Jaglanu; Sunderyani, wife of  Mohd Razzak from Budhal; Mohd Rashid, son of Ali Mohd from Targain; Abdul Gani, son of Abdul Rashid from Kandi; Mohd Shabir, son of Mohd Shafiq from Bain Nambla; Abdul Shakoor, son of Abdul Majid from Samote; Mohd Bashir, son of Abdullah from Dandote; Imtiaz Ahmed, son of Nissar Ahmed, resident of Kewal; Anwara Begum, wife of   Mohd Ashraf from Bela Fogli; Rakia Begum, daughter of Abdul Gafoor from Budhal, Mohd Razak, Zameela Begum,  Suriya Kouser, wife of Irfan Nadeem of Samote and Sadhu Ram, son of Tej Ram from Samote.
Meanwhile, one person was killed and eight others were injured when a Tata Sumo vehicle with registration No.JK02L/ 2148 rolled down into the fields from the road in Salwa area of Mendhar this  morning.
While 5-year old child, Mohd Sajjad, son of  Mohd Nissar from the same area died on the spot, the injured were shifted to SDH Mendhar. The passengers said that mishap took place due to negligence on the part of driver, who escaped from the site of accident. The vehicle had been  stopped for a while and it suddenly rolled down while driver was out. The police has taken cognizance of the matter.
The injured were identified as Nazam Din, son of Nazir Hussain, resident of Salwa, Sadeeqa Bi, wife of Ghulam Abbas from Salwa; Kafeel Ahmed, son of Nzam Din; Aftab Ahmed, son of Mohd Sharief; Motia Bi, wife of Mohd Sharief; Fida Hussain, son of Nissar Ahmed, Gulam Abbas, son of Mohd Rafiq  and Zaroon Bi, wife of Mohd Nissar- all from Salwa.
BMO Mendhar, Dr Parvez Ahmed Khan said that two seriously injured Mohd Kafeel and Zaroon Bi were referred to GMC Hospital, Jammu while condition of six others was stable. He said all possible medical assistance was being given to the accident victims.
