SRINAGAR, June 20: Four COVID-19 positive persons today died in Kashmir taking the death toll of such persons in Jammu and Kashmir to 80 while 110 persons including 21 police and para military security force personnel tested positive for the Coronavirus in the Valley.
A 65-year-old man from Budgam district tested positive for the Coronavirus today. A resident of Kanihama area of Magam, he passed away at SKIMS Soura in the wee hours today. He was admitted on June 19 and was diagnosed of B/L CAP. His sample was taken the same day which tested positive for COVID-19.
Earlier, an 80-year-old woman, who passed away at SMHS hospital here, tested positive for Coronavirus. The woman had underlying ailments related to chest and kidney. A resident of Khudwani, she was admitted to the hospital on June 18 and her sample was taken the same day which tested positive.
A 40-year old woman from Safa Kadal in Srinagar with underlying heart ailment and diabetes died six days after she was admitted to the SMHS hospital. She was admitted to SMHS hospital and after testing positive, she was referred to CD hospital on June 14 where she died today.
A 55-year-old woman from Tujan Pulwama died four days after her admission to the SKIMS hospital. She was referred from SMHS hospital as a case of meningioma (brain tumor) with obstructive sleep apnea (a serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts). She died at 6.45 a.m due to cardiopulmonary arrest.
With today’s deaths, the toll in Jammu and Kashmir of COVID-19 positive cases has reached to 80 including 71 from the Valley.
Srinagar district has highest number of 19 deaths, followed by Baramulla 13, Shopian 10, Kulgam 9, six Budgam, five each in Anantnag and Kupwara, Pulwama three while one death has been reported from Bandipora.
Fifteen paramilitary security force personnel and five policemen were among 110 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 in Kashmir taking the J&K tally to 5834.
Today’s positives included 28 from Srinagar followed by Baramulla 21, Budgam 20, Shopian 12, Pulwama 11, Kulgam 9, Kupwara seven and Bandipora 2. They include 14 from 144 Battalion of CRPF based at Nehru Park Srinagar, four DPL Pulwama, one DPL Shopian, one BSF man from Humhama, six pregnant women and two doctors.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura, Dr Farooq Jan, told Excelsior that 2409 samples were processed at the Viral Diagnostic Lab of the hospital today and 57 tested positive for the virus.
Those who tested positive include 14 from CRPF Battalions, 11 from Pulwama, 10 from Shopian, six from Kulgam, eight from Srinagar, four from Budgam and three each from Anantnag and Bandipora.
Principal SKIMS Medical College Bemina Srinagar, Dr Riyaz Untoo, told Excelsior that 427 samples were processed at the hospital and 17 tested positive. All of them are from Budgam district including a BSF man from Humhama headquarters.
An official said that 36 samples including six pregnant women tested positive at CD Virology Lab for COVID-19.
