SRINAGAR, Oct 15: Government Medical Colleges of Srinagar and Jammu are going through a tough period since more than three hundred faculty positions are lying vacant in both these medical colleges. Same is the case with faculty positions at the dental colleges located in the capital cities of the State.
According to the figures available with Health and Medical Education Department, it has been said that the position is worse at GMC, Srinagar as more than 200 faculty positions are lying vacant while as the number of vacant faculty positions at GMC, Jammu is more than 100.
At GMC Srinagar, 43 posts of Professors are lying vacant while as 31 positions of Assistant Professors are also lying vacant at this medical college. The position on account of Associate Professors and Lecturers at GMC Srinagar is disturbing as well.
Fifty two posts of Assistant Professors are lying vacant and the number of vacant posts of Lecturers is 78. In total, 204 faculty positions are lying vacant at Government Medical College, Srinagar.
As far as Government Medical College, Jammu is concerned the figures point out that 23 posts of Professors are lying vacant while as the number of vacant positions for Associate Professors is 14. 28 posts of Assistant Professors are lying vacant while as the number of vacancies for Lecturers is 40. In total, 103 faculty positions are lying vacant at Government Medical College, Jammu.
The figures point out that 50 faculty positions are lying vacant at Government Dental College, Srinagar and Government Dental College, Jammu. Twenty five faculty positions are vacant each at both the dental colleges of the State.
The Medical Colleges of Srinagar & Jammu alongwith the Dental Colleges at the capital cities of the State are also facing shortage of staff with respect to ministerial staff and the para-medical staff.
