JAMMU, Aug 2: Two persons including a minor school boy, were washed away in floods in Poonch and Ramban areas while a villager was buried alive as his house collapsed in the higher reaches of Bani area in Kathua last night.
Official sources said that 7-year-old boy, Khateeb Ahmed, son of Imtiaz Ahmed Shah, resident of Gundi in Gool area of Ramban was washed away in a flooded nallah near his school this morning. The incident took place at around 9.40 am when the boy, a student of class 2nd , was going to his school. While crossing nallah, the water level increased and he was washed away. Later, his dead body was recovered by the villagers.
Reports from Poonch said that 19-year-old Ashraf Bi, daughter of Subhan Mir, resident of Chakrara, in Mandi was washed away in a flooded nallah late last evening. Her dead body was recovered from Poonch river near a private B.Ed college this morning. The police after postmortem and performing legal formalities handed over the body to the family. Reports also said that flash flood in a nallah caused damage to a Pulli on Poonch – Chakkan-Da-Bagh road late last evening.
A report from Kathua said that 50-year-old Bahadur Singh was killed while his son was seriously injured when a portion of house in the higher reaches of Taggar in Bani collapsed last night. Both father and son were sleeping in muddy house when the mishap took place. The dead body was removed to Bani hospital while boy, Kamal Singh after treatment was shifted to GMC Hospital, Jammu.
Reports from Reasi said that Chopper service to Mata Vaidhnodevi shrine from Katra base camp remained suspended due to bad weather today while yatra through new track was also stopped due to fear of land slides.
Reasi-Mahore road was blocked due to landslides and Malai Nallah and Palasu Nallah while, Mahore Chasana-Budhal Road was also closed for the last two days due to blockades at several places.
