3 killed, 4 hurt in Samba mishap

SAMBA, July 2: Three persons were killed and four others injured three of them seriously after a private van rammed into an Army vehicle on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway near Sandh Bari, Ghagwal in Samba district around 0120 hours today.
Police said a rashly driven van hit a stationery Army crane at Jammu-Pathankot National Highway near Sandh Bari, Ghagwal in Samba district at 0120 hours resulting in on spot death of three persons traveling in it. Four persons were injured and three of them are in serious conditions. Total seven persons were travelling in the van, police added.
The deceased have been identified as Sunita Rani, 23, wife of Ashwani Kumar of Chak Dulma, Gopi Krishan , 29, resident of Badyal and Harsh Bardan, 20 also a resident of Badyal. The trio died on spot and their bodies were taken to Sub District Hospital Samba for autopsy. After conducting legal formalities the bodies of deceased were handed over to their respective families for the last rites, police said.

The injured included Renu Sharma, 27, Shammi, 22, Asha Ram, 28 and one year old Taksh. All are residents of Badyal, Samba.
Police said among the four, the condition of three was serious while a one-year-old child has been discharged after first aid and is out of danger.
Among the three serious injured, two were shifted to Amritsar and one to Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH)Jammu for specialized treatment.
The Ghagwal police has registered a case under relevant Sections of the law and started investigation.
Police said it was yet to be ascertain whether the driver of the van was among survivors or he too had died as none among the survivors was able to give a statement.
