3-day 11th J&K State Wushu Championship commences

JAMMU, May 12: 3-day 11th J&K State Wushu Championship commenced at Indoor Complex, M A Stadium, here today.
500 participants drawn from 14 districts are participating in the Championship.
The Championship was earlier scheduled to be held in the Month of March, but due to incessant rains and closure of National Highway, the Championship was not conducted during the financial year.
Today, sub-junior girls and boys weight categories events were in the fray.
Vijay Saraf, Vice President of Wushu Association of India was the chief guest on the occasion, while Dr Austosh Sharma, general secretary J&K Olympic Association and Deepak Handa, Vice President Wushu Association of J&K were the guests of honour.
Kuldeep Handoo presented welcome speech and briefed about the championship and the achievements during the financial year 2014-15 and thanked J&K State Sports Council for their cooperation.
The chief guest during his speech congratulated the Wushu Association of J&K  for achieving excellent results during the 35th National Games held at Kerala and said that on the basis of such results  8 athletes of the State have been selected for the National Coaching camp at SAI Bhopal for the World Wushu Championship.
Rajan Sharma Divisional Sports Officer, Ajay Paul Gill and Abhishek Jain were special guests on the occasion.
Sheikh Owais, Chairman and H K Lohia, President of Wushu Association of J&K lauded the efforts of the organizers for holding the mega event.
