2G service extended up to Aug 19

JAMMU, July 29: The Government today extended 2G internet service in Jammu and Kashmir up to August 19, 2020.
The Principal Secretary to Government, Home Department (J&K), Shaleen Kabra while issuing an order today mentioned that the restrictions on access to internet through mobile data services have been necessitated in the UT of J&K in view of its misuse in planning and executing terror acts including attacks on security forces, political workers and innocent civilians, propagation of ideologies inimical to the interests of the country, misguiding the youth to join terrorist ranks, communicating and coordinating with handlers across the border to facilitate infiltration.
Moreover, the suspension of the mobile data services in specific areas and for a very limited period has also been authorized to prevent disruption of efforts of security forces during counter terror operations. There are inputs suggesting rise in anti-national activities over the coming weeks, in view of completion of an year since implementation of constitutional changes in J&K.
Therefore, taking note of the over all security situation and the reports of the law enforcement agencies, it has been decided that the internet speed shall be restricted to 2G only in J&K and these restrictions shall remain in force up to August 19, 2020, unless, modified earlier, the order said.
