NEW DELHI, Aug 23:
There are three vacancies of judges in the Supreme Court and 275 vacancies in high courts, the government today said.
“There are 3 vacancies in the Supreme Court and 275 vacancies in the High Courts as on August 1, 2013,” Law Minister Kapil Sibal said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
He said vacancies of judges in one of the several reasons for pending cases in courts.
In response to another question, Sibal said that as per article 348(1) of the Constitution, all proceedings in Supreme Court and in every High Court shall be in English language until Parliament by law otherwise provides.
He said proposals had been received for use of regional languages in the High courts of Madras and Gujarat and for the use of Hindi in the High Court of Chhattisgarh. (PTI)
