JAMMU, May 24: Special Judge Anticorruption Puneet Gupta today convicted Madan Lal, the then Patwari Halqa Satwari, who was caught-red-handed by the Vigilance Organization in the year 2006 while accepting bribe from the complainant and awarded 2 years imprisonment.
According to the Vigilance case, the accused was arrested on the written complaint of one Gurjeet Singh, who submitted that the Patwari was demanding illegal gratification of Rs 11000 for preparing Fard of land measuring 11 marlas.
On this, Vigilance Organization laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 9000. After completion of investigation, challan was presented in the court.
After hearing CPO Harminder Singh for the Vigilance Organization whereas Advocate R K Kotwal for the accused, Special Judge Anticorruption observed, “the illegal act of the accused in demanding the bribe was done in the capacity of public servant and accused had obtained the pecuniary advantage to which he was not otherwise entitled”.
“The prosecution has been able to prove its case against the accused beyond shadow of doubt for the offences under Section 161 and 5(1)(d) read with Section 5(2) PC Act”, the court said and sentenced the accused to undergo imprisonment for a period of two year. He was accordingly sent to the District Jail to serve the sentence.
