RAJOURI, Mar 10: Two children were killed while seven others of the nomad family turned serious after food poisoning in remote Khawas area of Kalakote in district Rajouri last night.
Official sources told the Excelsior that family members of Suleman Bakerwal staying in forest area of Pangral Morha near Doong village in Khawas, took meals at around 8 pm on Wednesday. They took maize ‘roti’ and later consumed leafy tea. After consuming this stuff all of them turned unconscious and kept lying there through out the night.
In the morning some people noticed them and informed police. The police shifted them to Kalakote hospital where two male minor children were declared as dead. They were identified as Imtiaz Ahmed (6) and Mohd Imran (4), sons of Suleman. Their bodies were shifted to DH Rajouri for mostmortem.
The other unconscious persons were also shifted to Kalakote and Sunderbani hospitals. Their condition was said to be improving. They have been identified as Suleman (32), Khurhseeda Begum (28), wife of Suleman, Mohd Qayoom (15), son of Mohd Rafiq; Satar Ahmed (10), son of Noor Mohd, Ghulam Mustafa (12), son of Mohd Bashir, Asya Bibi (50), wife of Mir Waris and Noor Mohd (70), son of Ghulam Nabi.
The police has taken cognizance of the matter. The police believes that some poisonous insect must have entered the tea pot, affecting the health of all the members of nomad family.
