SRINAGAR, June 18: Two-day conference of Association of North Zone Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons of India (ANZCTVS) held recently at SKICC, Srinagar.
The conference was organized by department of CVT, SKIMS, headed by Dr GN Lone who was the organizing secretary. The function was presided by chief guest, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, Financial Commissioner, J&K, who during his address, stressed for optimal use of services and facilities available to cardiac surgeons.
Guests of honour, Prof RK Suri, Ex- Head CTVS Department, PGI Chandigarh and Prof Balram Airan, Ex- Dean of Medical Faculty AIIMS, New Delhi, declared that the Department of CVTS has been doing excellent job and is at par with other cardiac centres of the country in terms of their quality of work they have exhibited during the conference.
Director, SKIMS and Ex-Officio Secretary to Government, during his address highlighted the achievements of the specialty. Patron of ANZCTVS, Dr HS Bedi, president and co-patron, Prof Ashwani Kumar Suri and secretary of North Zone Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons of India, Dr Rajiv Kumar Gupta also spoke on the occasion.
The conference was attended by Cardiac Surgeons, Cardiologists, Cardiac Anesthesiologists and Perfusion Specialists from leading hospitals of the country including AIIMS New Delhi, Medanta-The Medicity, Fortis Escorts New Delhi, Max Hospital New Delhi, Shalby Hospital Chandigarh.
In addition, huge number of local delegates from SKIMS, GMC, Srinagar, SKIMS, Medical College and Khyber Hospital, Srinagar actively participated and presented their research work. Three workshops of high quality were conducted under the supervision of world renowned Course Directors and legends in the field namely Prof Anil Tendulkar and Dr Ali Zameeron.
A special session for Perfusion specialists was held under the supervision of learnt guest faculty. An oration lecture in the memory of late Prof Abdul Ahad Guroo was delivered by Prof Yugal K Mishra and Prof Mehraj-ud-din. Highlights of the scientific conference included latest trends in management of heart disease with emerging challenges with particular reference to Heart failure and Transplant, Complex Congenital heart disease and their management, Complex CABG, Endovascular techniques, Aneurysmal surgeries and Transcutaneous valve replacements.
