JAMMU, Apr 19: MCH COVID Hospital Gandhinagar successfully operated first COVID positive woman and performed Caesarian to deliver two healthy twin female babies.
The operation was done by team of doctors from SMGS and GMC Jammu including Dr Huma (Registrar Gynae & obst), Dr Megha (Registrar Anaesthesia), Dr Monika Jutshi (PG) and Dr Kartik (PG Paediatrics) with the assistance of a team of technicians from MCH Gandhinagar.
Dr Arun Sharma, Medical Superintendent, MCH Gandhinagar, said that both mother and babies are good and healthy. He said both the babies are COVID negative and have been kept separate from the mother.
He informed that MCH Hospital Gandhinagar was made COVID Hospital last year and the first patients were admitted in June 2020 and till date more than 700 patients have been admitted, treated and discharged. Dr Sharma said that sufficient machinery and equipment for doing surgeries and other routine tasks have been provided by JKMSCL.
Dr Sharma revealed that from April 17 onwards all COVID positive patients from surgical specialties like Surgery, Orthopedics, Gynae, ENT, Eye etc shall be operated at MCH Gandhinagar which is 200-bedded hospital with oxygen pipeline and manifold backup for all the beds.
Pertinent to mention here that under the guidance of Dr Shashi Sudan Sharma, Principal and Dean GMC & Associated Hospitals Jammu trial of major surgeries were done on Non-COVID patients at MCH COVID Hospital Gandhinagar on April 16 to see whether the theaters of MCH are prepared to take COVID positive patients for surgeries.
