JAMMU, July 31: The first ever laparoscopic weight loss surgery was performed in a private hospital in Jammu by Dr Vikrant Singh Chandail and his team from CUSP group of surgeons.
The surgery was performed on a 60 years old Shashi Dutta belonging to Rajpura, Jammu weighing 120 kg with Body Mass Index of 45. Patient had multiple co morbidities along with morbid obesity. She had undergone multiple treatment modalities for weight reduction but could not achieve any weight loss.
Then she consulted Dr Vikrant Singh Chandail, Gastro Surgeon working at Government Medical College Jammu. After thorough workup and proper counselling, weight loss surgery i.e. Gastric Sleeve resection was performed laparoscopically under General Anaesthesia given by team of Dr Mushtaq and Dr Sanam Kasana. The assistants included Abhilav Sharma, Yograj, Shehzad and Sahil.
The patient is recovering well and is walking and now fit to be discharged.
