JAMMU, Mar 22: 19th Men State Wrestling Championship and 5th Women State Wrestling Championship was inaugarated by Vijay Singh Sambyal, DIG IR Jammu and Vijay Kumar, Commandant IR-10th Battalion at Indoor Hall, MA Stadium, here.
Around 100 wrestlers from across the State including the wrestlers of J&K Police Central Team took part in the Championship.
The chief guest while speaking on the occasion of opening ceremony emphasised the role of the sports in nation building and assured full support from the Police Department for the upliftment of the game in the State.
Vijay Kumar lauded the effort of J&K Wrestling Association for promoting this sport in the State.
Dushyant Sharma, president J&K Wrestling Association and former president Wrestling Federation of India presented welcome address, while  prominent among members of the J&K State Wrestling Association who were present on the occasion were Ashutosh Sharma, general secretary, J&K Olympic Association; Ajay Vaid, general secretary, J&K Wrestling Association; Krishan Pahalwan, Deeraj Sharma, Ravi Kumar, Vijay Kumar and Raju Pahalwan.
The Championship was held for 8 weight categories of men and women.  The participating players included Bopinder Singh(Kathua) and Ravi Kant (Jammu) in 53 kg; Shami Kumar (Jammu) and Shakeel Ahmad (Poonch) in 57 kg; Pawan Kumar (J&K Police) and Aman Deep (Jammu) in 74 kg; Anil Kumar (J&K Police) and Vivek Chand (Jammu) in 86 kg and Benia Min (J&K Police) and Javid Khan (Jammu) in 97 kg.
