BHADERWAH, Aug 8: To promote cricket among rural youth and to tap their raw talent by honing their skills, Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council in collaboration with State Cricket Academy (State Cricket Academy) organized a T20 cricket tournament for the youth of Chenab Valley at Bhaderwah.
The mega event in which 16 teams from different parts of erstwhile Doda are participating is being played at College Sports ground, here.
The tournament which is being sponsored by the highest sports body (J&KSSC) of the state for the first time in the region was inaugurated by Annie Kotwal, Principal Boys Higher Secondary School in presence of representatives of J&KSSC and veteran cricketers of the region today.
The inaugural match was played between, Eleven Star Bhadarwah and Combine Bhadarwah, in which later elected to bat after winning the toss.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kotwal said that this was a positive boon for the youth of Chenab Valley which will help them in diverting their attention and energy towards sports and will also keep them away from the negative things prevalent in present day society.
“The participating teams will go through various levels of competition to reach the final level and after which 16 players will be selected by SCA from the region to compete at state level,” said Sameer Malik, former Ranji Trophy Cricketer and Coordinator of the Tournament.
The senior officials and cricketers who represented J&KSSC and SCA during the inaugural match included ZSO Bhadarwah Pritam Singh, Murtaza Qadir, Sanjay Kumar, Mudassir Maqbol, Babar Mughal, Tariq Mehmood, Vijay Kumar and Parmood Singh.
