10 yrs RI awarded to 2 real brothers in NDPSA case

JAMMU, Feb 27: Principal Sessions Judge Kathua Sanjeev Gupta today awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment to two real brothers namely Nazir Ahmed and Shakir Ahmed, sons of Abdul Rashid of Pampore in NDPSA case.
Both the accused were arrested along with large quantity of poppy straw and accordingly were booked under Narcotics Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act.
After hearing Public Prosecutor BB Sharma for the State whereas Advocate T N Gupta for the accused persons, the court observed, “the convicts were consciously transporting 184 kilograms of poppy straw, which falls under commercial quantity, in their truck. The use of drug has become a major problem not only in our State but also in the Country”.
“The younger generation may be due to the exposure of latest electronic technology and other factors in fast paced life, has got a particular temptation towards the use of drug which is nothing but destruction of the youth and the mankind”, the court further said, adding “the persons, who deal with the narcotics, are not only a threat to the society but also to the entire social environment. Therefore, in order to effectively control and eradicate this proliferating and booming devastating menace, causing deleterious effects and deadly impact on the society as a whole, the sentence should be deterrent to the perpetrator of the crime which should serve a message to the persons involved in the narcotic trade”.
In view of the facts and circumstances of the case and after weighing aggravating and mitigating circumstances, court awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment to both the brothers.
