SRINAGAR: One jawan was killed in a fierce encounter that ensued between militants and security forces at Handwara, where a police station was attacked and late last night, official sources said here this afternoon.
They said on specific information about the presence of militants, security forces and State police launched a joint operation at Handwara.
However, when the security forces were moving towards particular area, militants opened fire with automatic weapons during which a security jawan was injured who later succumbed to his injuries. Security forces also retaliated and the fierce encounter was going on when the last reports came in, they said, adding four to five militants are trapped in the area. (AGENCIES)
