Zahoor stresses on using water logged areas for fish farming

JAMMU, Apr 20: Minister of State for Forest, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Cooperative and Fisheries Mir Zahoor Ahmad today stressed on exploring viability of using various water logged areas for fish farming and other tourism related activities.
Chairing a high level meeting with the officers of Forest, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Cooperative and Fisheries Departments convened to review the functioning of these departments here today, Mir Zahoor asked the concerned officers to take concerted efforts for generating mass awareness among all stakeholders about the Centrally Sponsored Schemes so that maximum people specially youth can avail benefit of the programme and enhance their employability.
The meeting was attended by the Principal Secretary, Forests and Ecology and Environment Rakesh Kumar Gupta, Secretary, Animal Sheep Husbandry Department Vinod Koul, Secretary, Co-operative, Baseer Ahmad Khan, Registrar Co-operative, Bashir Ahmad Bhat and other concerned senior officers.
The Minister received a detailed resume of activities and achievements from all these departments.
While reviewing fisheries sector, the Minister appreciated the progress registered by the Department and emphasized on completing the other new units for generating employment avenues for the un-employed youth under the Rashtri Krishi Vikas Yojna (RKVY).
In order to give a boost to the livestock industry in the State, the Minister stressed on sustainable growth, production of livestock, poultry and fisheries for nutritional security and economic prosperity of the State. He underscored the need for genetic up-gradation of local livestock to strengthen and improve productivity and ensure a disease free livestock product supply chain for the State.
The Minister also took stock of the Co-operative Societies Registered and stressed for strengthening and revival of cooperative societies.
