Youth injured in firing

Srinagar, Apr 16: A youth was injured today as security forces fired on stone pelting protesters in a Shopian village during cordon and search operation.
A joint team of Army and police laid cordon around Heff village in Shopian district after inputs about the presence of militants.
The locals, mostly youth protested against the security forces during the cordon and pelted stones on them.
Security forces opened fire and used tear gas to disperse the protesters resulting in injuries to a youth. The youth was hit by bullet in his shoulder and was shifted to Pulwama hospital. He was identified as Faizan Ahmad Shah son of Bashir Ahmad Shah, a resident of Shirmal.
A police spokesman said that acting on a specific information about presence of militants in village Heff of Shopian  a cordon and search operation was launched.
“While the cordon was being laid a mob of  people  assembled. The militants fired upon the security forces and taking advantage of the mob they managed to escape”, he said.
After sometime it was learnt that one person has received a bullet injury in his shoulder and was admitted in Pulwama district hospital. His condition is stated to be stable so far. Police have taken up the investigation in the incident, he added.
