JAMMU, Sept 28: A large number of activists of Youth Congress led by its State president, Pranav Shagotra today ‘gheraoed’ official residence of Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh to lodge protest against  failure of the BJP leadership to convince its coalition partner PDP to declare State holiday on the birth anniversary of last Dogra ruler, Maharaja Hari Singh.
The Youth Congress activists also gave vent to their anger against brutal lathi-charge on female students of Banaras Hindu University (BHU).
Hundreds of Youth Congress activists, who were gathered in front of the Circuit House,  moved towards residence of Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh at Canal Road amid shouting of anti-BJP and anti-DyCM slogans. Carrying placards and banners, Youth Congress activists blocked vehicular movement on Talab Tillo Road for some time.
Although there was heavy deployment of force to foil attempts of Youth Congress workers’ march towards residence of DyCM, some of the workers even managed to stand on the main gate of Dr Nirmal Singh’s residence. Cops entered into scuffle with some Youth Congress activists to restore normalcy in the area.
Speaking on the occasion, Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC)  president Pranav Shagotra said that reason of holding protest in front of the residence of Deputy Chief Minister was his betrayal with the people of Jammu region, who had voted to the BJP with a hope that Saffron Party would come up to their expectations.
“Non-declaration of holiday on birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh and criminal silence of the BJP Ministers had fully exposed the ruling alliance which had defied the popular sentiment of Jammu only to appease separatists and forces inimical to the nation”, he said and alleged that the State holiday was being denied at the behest of secessionist forces who had all along opposed the integration of the State with the Union of India besides questioning the legality and authenticity of the instrument of Accession.
Ridiculing Deputy Chief Minister for writing a letter to Chief Minister of his own Government, PYC chief said that letter was nothing but a ploy to befool the people of Jammu on this emotive issue.
Satish Sharma- vice president, Varinder Singh Chib, Balbir Singh, Pankaj Basotra, Paramjeet Singh, Charanjeet Cheeku, (PYC gen secys);  Chetan Wanchoo-spokesperson, Jatinder Chib, Anoop Gupta, Ricky Dalotra, Ashwani Sharma, Aijaz Choudhary, Gagandeep Singh and others also accompanied.
