JAMMU, Feb 24: Defeating Param Football Club in a close contest by (3-2) via tie-breaker in the summit clash, Young Rovers Football Club lifted the title trophy of the Football Tournament, organized by 66 Bn Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), under Civic Action Programme (CAP) at Parade ground, here.
MLA Jammu East, Rajesh Gupta was the chief guest on the closing ceremony, who alongwith DIG Manvinder Negi, Commandant 66 Bn SSB, VS Jamwal, Deputy Commandants Barjeet Singh and Jeet Lal and other dignitaries interacted with the players of both the teams in the finals.
A large number of officers and officials of SSB and office bearers of Jammu and Kashmir Football Association, besides sports enthusiasts attended the closing ceremony.
Later-on, the chief guest distributed trophies and other prizes among the winners and runners-up teams.
Winners were presented a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 20,000, while the runners-up team was presented a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a trophy by the chief guest and the other dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Gupta lavished praise on the organizers for holding this mega soccer event, which witnessed the participation of prominent Football Clubs of Jammu, helping young footballers to showcase their skill & talent and interact with their counterparts of other Clubs.
The chief guest appreciated the initiative of Sashastra Seema Bal for involving youth in sporting activity, thus harnessing their energy in positive direction to help them not to derail from the mainstream.
He said such events help in eradicating drug addiction and other evils from the society, besides promoting sports and sportspersons.
Earlier, the players of both the teams showed extraordinary soccer skills and the match ended (1-1) in the stipulated time. But Young Rovers footballers held their nerves better when it mattered the most in tie-breaker, wiining the battle by three goals to two (3-2).
Now, the Inter-District Tournament, being organized by Sashastra Seema Bal will commence at Parade Ground Jammu from February 27, 2017.
