Yatra suspended from Jammu

JAMMU, Aug 17: Over 800 pilgrims paid obeisance to Lord Shiva in holy cave of Swami Amarnath Ji situated at an altitude of 3880 meters in deep Himalayas in South Kashmir district of Anantnag on 51st day of darshan today.
According to an officer on yatra duty, 843 pilgrims paid obeisance at holy cave from twin tracks of Baltal and Chandanwari – Pahalgam today. He said 2,81,277 pilgrims have performed the darshan in holy cave since the two month long yatra started on June 28.
He said the yatra from Jammu to holy cave also remained suspended today in view of very less number of pilgrims reporting at Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas and starting of Buda Amarnath yatra from today. He said the yatra towards holy cave will be resumed tomorrow.
He said the weather on yatra routes remained overcast with clouds during the day and it drizzled for some time also but the yatra proceeded normally from both the tracks.
He said 568 pilgrims left from shortest Baltal track by foot for holy cave early this morning while 93 left by chopper during the day. Besides, 150 pilgrims left via traditional 32 km long Pahalgam -Chandanwari track from Nunwan base camp early this morning. The pilgrims having night halt at Sheshnag and Panjtarni transit camps also left for their onwards sojourn early this morning, he added.
He said out of over 2.81 lakh pilgrims who performed darshan at holy cave, 2.80 lakh have returned to their home States. The two -month long Swami Amarnath Ji yatra will culminate on August 26 i.e Shravan Purnima coinciding with Raksha Bandhan festival when the holy mace of Lord Shiva reaches the cave shrine from its abode Dashnami Akhara Srinagar early in the morning.
The holy mace which has been kept for darshan of devotees at Dashnami Akhara, Srinagar will leave for cave shrine on August 20.
