World Sight Day observed

JAMMU, Oct 11: World Sight Day was today observed in upgraded Department of Ophthalmology, Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu.
It is observed annually on second Thursday of October with a view to draw attention on blindness and vision impairment. This year theme of the `World Sight Day was -” Eye Care Everywhere”
“The main objective of this year’s event is to raise public awareness on blindness and vision impairment as major public health issues and educate target audiences about blindness preventions,” Head of Department, Ophthalmology, Dr Dinesh Gupta said.
Pamphlets were distributed and posters regarding common eye ailments were displayed in the Out Patient Department.
Dr Gupta said patients were educated about ocular hygiene as spread of conjunctivitis is common in this season. Patients were screened for diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy and educated regarding early detection and their management.
Dr Gupta said the team of Ophthalmology Department is trying to reach out to many people for awareness on the subject `Eye Care Everywhere’.
