World Leprosy Day observed across State

JAMMU, Jan 30: In connection with World Leprosy Day, aimed to increase public awareness that leprosy can be easily prevented and cured, several functions were held across the State to disseminate the anti leprosy consciousness among the people so that they are made aware about this crippling disease and eradicates it from the society.
The date for World Leprosy Day was chosen to coincide with the anniversary of Indian freedom fighter, Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination on January 30, 1948.
JAMMU: On the occasion of World Leprosy Day, Shaheen Sports Syndicate today distributed rice cookers, woolen blankets and woolen clothing among leprosy patients and also organized leprosy awareness programme at Khust Asharam Bhagwati Nagar, here. President JKFA and Treasurer AIFF Zameer Ahmad Thakur was the chief guest, while the guest of honour was Principle Bright Candle High School, Meena Kamal Gupta. On the occasion Chairman SSS Showkat Ahmad Khanyari, Secretary SSS Mohammad Farooq Matto and Jammu Head Ramesh Dogra were also present on the occasion.
UDHAMPUR: Deputy Commissioner, Niraj Kumar today launched a mobile van with an aim to raise awareness among the people about Leprosy. Chief Medical Officer, Dr Chander Prakash, ADDC Arvind Sharma, CPO Rakesh Jamwal, ACD Om Prakash, ACR Subhash Chander Dogra, Principal Government PG College Boys, SS Bhalwal, DPO Sandeep Seointra, Superintendent, District Hospital Dr Narinder Bhatyal, ASHAs, AWWs and large number of students from various education institutions attended the programme.
RAJOURI: Department of Zoology, Government PG College observed World Leprosy Day. The guest lecture was presented by Prof Mangat Ram Sharma, HOD Zoology. Principal of the college, Prof SH Shah threw light on the importance of celebrating the day. The students from the different semesters of UG courses participated in the programme. The faculty of the Department namely Dr Tahir Hussain Shah, Prof Shahid Mehmood, Prof Imtiyaz Rashid and Dr Harsh Vardhan Singh also attended the programme. Prof Javid Mughal, HOD English and Prof Iqbal Raina were also present on the occasion.
SRINAGAR: World Leprosy Day was held at JLNH hospital which was organized by Directorate of Health Services Kashmir. The function was attended by SDM, Srinagar, Syed Haneef Balkhi, CMO, Srinagar, Dr Bashir Ahmed Malik, Medical Officers from Leper Hospital, ASHA coordinator; officials from Social Welfare Department, besides medical and paramedical staff form Health Services.
Budgam: Department of Health in collaboration with District Sparsh Leprosy held an awareness campaign here. The day long programme was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner, Mir Altaf Ahmad in presence of CMO Budgam Dr GM Dar, Programme Officer, CDS Budgam, Chief Education Officer and other concerned Officers.
PULWAMA: To raise awareness about leprosy eradication, District Leprosy Society organized a Leprosy awareness camp at Old District Hospital Pulwama. CMO informed that a series of awareness programmes will be held in the district to provide medical assistance to people living with leprosy.
KUPWARA: In connection with World Leprosy Day, a function was held at DC Office Complex here, which was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner, GM Dar. CMO Kupwara, Dr Zakir Hussain and other officers were also present on the occasion.
ANANTNAG: District Leprosy Society today organized an awareness camp on leprosy at MMABM, District Hospital, here. Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah was the chief guest on the occasion. CMO Anantnag was also present on the occasion.
GANDERBAL: in connection with World Leprosy Day, two week long campaign organized by District Health Society was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner, Tariq Hussain Ganai in Town Hall, here. A rally was taken out by health workers and ASHAS from District Hospital to Town Hall.
Kulgam: Deputy Commissioner, Showkat Aijaz Bhat inaugurated one day Sparsh Anti Leprosy Camp here in the meeting hall of DC Office.  The camp was organized by Director Health Services Kashmir in collaboration with District Leprosy Society Kulgam. CMO Kulgam, Dr Mohammed Shafi Darsi was also present on the occasion.
SHOPIAN:  District Leprosy Society organised awareness-cum-training programme for the supervisors and ASHA workers of Health Department at CMO office. District Development Commissioner, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri presided over the function, while as Chief Medical Officer through power point presentation educated the participants about the signs and symptoms of Leprosy.
