JAMMU, Sept 9: Work on the mega Smart City Project for Jammu is all set to begin soon as Government of India is likely to release around Rs 200 crore as first installment after maiden meeting of the Board of Directors of Jammu Smart City Limited next week.

This was informed by M Raju, Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation, who is holding the additional charge of the Chief Executive Officer, Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for Jammu Smart City Project.
“After registration of the Jammu Smart City Company Limited under Companies Act, the Board of Directors is going to meet tentatively on September 15 for discussing the names of technical experts, to be proposed by the Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs and included in the BOD,” he said while talking to media persons, here today.
Informing that the Smart City project would cost Rs 3600 crores, including Rs 1600 crore under convergence and Rs 1000 crore under PPP project, Raju said that Jammu will be developed under heritage model with non specified non-motorized areas in the old city.
It may be recalled that the State Government had last month constituted two SPV Companies, one each for Jammu and Srinagar cities with authorized share capital of Rs 10 lakh, divided into Rs one lakh equity shares of Rs 10 each and paid up capital of Rs 10 lakh only.
Stating that Jammu city was passing through crucial transformation phase, the JMC Commissioner listed the projects assigned to the Municipal Corporation under AMRUT and Swacch Bharat besides Smart City Project.
He informed that under Swacch Bharat Mission, community toilets with 200 seat capacity each were being constructed at 40 locations in Jammu. Work has been started on 15 of them while for the rest 25 places, locations have been identified and the process is on for seeking NOC from the concerned authorities,” he said and added that a Rs 364 crore Solid Waste Management Project on scientific basis is also being set up in Jammu for which tendering process has been initiated.
Similar, the Commission said, 27 projects worth Rs 206 crore are being taken up under AMRUT and work on 15 of them has already begun while tendering process is on for the rest 12 projects.
The Commissioner further informed that special flying squads were being constituted to check encroachment and immediate action while more vehicles have been added for garbage collection from the city.
JMC Joint Commissioner Rajesh Sharma and some other officers were also present in the press conference.
