UDHAMPUR, May 19: Up in arms against opening of a wine shop at Suriya Hotel complex, Karlah, local women of three Panchayats held a strong protest demonstration and blocked circular road at Patnitop.
Locals of Panchayat Karlah, Pachote and Chakwa, mostly women, assembled amidst raising of slogans for “Nasha Mukti Abhiyan” and blocked the circular road. They were demanding immediate closure of the wine shop.
The protesting women said that the newly opened wine shop had become a nuisance and threat to the innocent school going children in general and women in particular.
The agitating people alleged that they had submitted a memorandum regarding their demand to the Tehsildar. Chenani on 10 May but there was no action. We are campaigning for “Nasha Mukti Abhiyan” but it seems that the slogan of administration is “Nasha Karo Abhiyan” as wine shops are being opened despite strong protests, the villagers alleged.
