JAMMU, Jan 9: Due to the death of one newly married woman Pooja (23) wife of Ashwani Kumar residents of Ward Number 12 Vijaypur at ICU GMC last evening, relatives and supported of the Pooja  today staged a demonstration at Main Chowk Vijaypur on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway along with the dead body and sat on the road  and shouting slogans against Police Department for not taking  the strong action against the culprits.
They alleged that Pooja’s  husband was responsible for  this heinous crime  as he tortured her physically and mentally. The protesters were demanding R.P.C. 302 against the husband of deceased and also her in-laws should take care of her 18 months old baby.
The protesters also blocked the Jammu –Pathankot National Highway for two hours from 2 pm to 4pm and later SDM Vijaypur, Ravinder Sharma visited the spot and assured the protestors that administration will do justice with them. SDM also told them that the husband of the deceased has already  been arrested by Vijaypur Police and the further investigation is going on.
After the assurance of SDM they left National Highway blockade and took the dead body for  last rites.
During these two hours blockade  of National Highway there was a heavy jam and commuters were put to lot of trouble.
It is pertinent to mention that Pooja Devi was adopted by her uncle  (Mama) Gara Ram from Kamore Camp Ramgarh and was married in 2015.  She had strained relations with her husband as the lady’s relatives complained that she was being tortured for dowry. On January 6 she was admitted at GMC ICU where she died yesterday evening.
